The paintings are a form of visual prayer, contemplating the themes
of hope and salvation. They developed as a response to the pain
and struggle of so many innocents who suffer as a result of war.
Inspired by a visit to Wurzburg, re-built after devastating air-raids,
the paintings take visual inspiration from the art of that city:
Tilman Riemenschneider, Johann Wagner, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and also German Expressionism.
Conceived over several years the images encourage us to pray for the forgiveness, inner peace and world integrity which Jesus gave his life to achieve. They take their theme from the Seven Last Words from the Cross and Seven Resurrection Appearances of Christ
